About Us  We began emu farming in 1996 mainly for the meat and oil however due to the changes in processing  regulations we are now unable to process the birds at local facilities. Our flock of 40 birds now  regularly supply eggs for cooking and crafts, feathers (see the Moa cloak and Moa exhibition at Te  Papa). Another great product from emus is the oil which is great for all things to with the skin - for burns and scalds, sunburn, bites, psoriasis, dry skin, rashes, eczema etc (we supply a range of top quality Moanui skin care products). We have our regular customers who swear by it and some say it also helps to ease their arthritis About Emu’s  The emu prefers and seeks a very nutritious diet. They take the parts of plants that have the most  concentrated nutrients: seeds, fruits, flowers and young shoots. They also eat insects and small  vertebrates when they are easily available, but in the wild they do not eat dry grasses or mature leaves  even if they are all that is available. Emus eat large stones to help their gizzards grind up food. They  also often eat charcoal.  Dromaius novaehollandiae (Larger Emu)  Native to Australia The emu is the second largest living bird. Belongs to the Ratite family of flightless birds which includes: Ostrich Emu Rhea Cassowary Kiwi Emu Products Oil for skin care products Eggs for cooking Eggs blown for egg art Feathers for art Bones for carving
